But I really got hooked when I found [Carl] Menger’s Grundsätze such a fascinating book, so satisfying. Even then, you see, I came back to study law in order to be able to do economics, but I was about equally interested in economics and psychology. I finally had to choose between the things I was interested in. Economics at least had a formal legitimation by a degree, while in psychology you had nothing.
John Nef recalled the circumstances (Search for Meaning, p. Eliot and Friedrick Hayek in London, enabled me to make those two important appointments to the Committee on Social Thought. Hayek accepted a permanent chair he was destined to hold for almost fifteen years.
