It's a great way for anyone to learn about the birds in your state. This is a black and white booklet that has been printed on A4 paper, rather than published as such as an actual "book". Having worked for more that a decade for a software company, I'm well aware of the syndrome you don't seem to recognize: the product works perfectly in the shop; it works like crap in the field. Audubon’s Centers, and its sanctuaries and education programs are developing the next generation of conservation leaders by providing opportunities for families, students, teachers and others to learn about and enjoy the natural world.

Contains aides to identifying tracks, what may have killed a carcass by how if fed, etc. On the other hand, some remarks have been removed. Now the only thing left to do is wait for the birds … oh, and add any new visitors to my son’s bird book of course! It also has a glued in ribbon to use as a bookmark, which I find very useful, and more reliable than the other bookmarks I have in there, gum leaves, feathers, etc. that were lying around at the time.

The guides are laminated for durability in the field and have a hole punched in the top for display aboard a boat, or in the the home or office. In a nice touch, the incomplete plate (page with the painting of birds) that he was working on when he died is found in the preface by his wife, and the forward references the completed version that was completed by a friend for inclusion in this Fifth edition. I thought it would be interesting to look at selections of the Stokes’ description of the falcon, which is listed in both guides: Shape in Flight: Very large, heavy-bodied, broad-necked falcon, tail very broad and moderately long, wings fairly long and broad-based for a falcon; outer wings taper to blunt tip.

Action is the what they need to build that interest. Each chapter includes information on the animals, birds and flora, as well as giving pertinent tourist information, such as accommodation and facilities available (note that the book was published in 1995 but most info should hold true today). It takes some getting used to but it is very handy for quick sketching especially under difficult conditions. This convenient pocket guide cover 252 birds, both resident and migratory, occurring in the Himalaya.

Perhaps a softcover edition of your favorite European guide - Lars Johnsson's, for example. Robert Mortensen, of the Birding Is Fun! blog, has a useful Feature comparison table. Also the 2016 bird forecast is listed below for all the major pheasant states. What you get, if you decide to a handheld field guide, will depend on price, features, and model of handheld computer.
