His walks are to Finsbury, and up Tottenham Hill; his farthest excursions, even in pursuit of his favourite amusement, only reach Ware and Waltham; his diversion, when there, is the drowsy watching of the immersion of a cork and a quill; and almost all his ideas confined to baits of lob-worms and live maggots. G&S's calibration of the two is well-nigh perfect, Gilbert's satire shining through the sparkle of Sullivan's catchy creations.
